Ah, New England

The two-letter state code for Nebraska is NE. It’s the first two letters in the name of the state, so it shouldn’t be all that surprising. So why do people insist that NE stands for New England?

I called Time Warner to schedule a time for them to connect our cable (yes, we did eventually find a place to live). The rep on the line, Jason, insisted that our current address was in New England.

“Lets see, your current address is in New England?”

“Ah, no, NE stands for Nebraska.”

“No, NE stands for New England.”

Now I can see thinking there was a typo in the address, but don't try and tell a customer that they live in some mythical state after they correct your mistake the first time. Sadly, Jason isn’t the only person I’ve ran across who believed that NE was short for New England, but most people won't argue with you about it.

Welcome to blogging, you two. Looks great (love all the photos!) and I've added it to my daily Blogroll.

The UPS guy sounds a little creepy. Good thing you're moving far, far away. Ya know, to NE. ;) But ya know, we're all gonna miss you. You'll just have to come back for some gourmet dinner parties.

See ya.

Dave Schneider had the exact same conversation with a Time-Warner rep a couple of years ago!

LOL! That's too funny. I know someone else though NE stood for New England, but I can't remember who.

By the way, I started reading the book you got us. It has some very good advice in there. One of my favorite things about it though is the personal stories that the contributors share throughout the book. Some of them are pretty funny.
